Merry Christmas and Happy 2013

Dear Friends and Family,

I'm not going to go into too much detail as everyone seems to be on facebook these days and we get to catch up with each other in real time.

We quicked off 2012 driving from Minnesota down South Florida, what an adventure, we loved it, no agenda, no schedule, just us, the car and a picnic basket. It was great fun driving down all these beautiful states, enjoying the landscaping and each of their unique selling points. Randy got to stop at the bat factory called Louisville Slugger, that was his highlight.  We also stopped in Atlanta and spent some quality time with our friends Gina and John, that was great. Needless to say, at the end of our trip we were ready to move to Florida.

This summer we bought a cabin on Star Lake near Fergus Falls to be closer to the children, grandchildren, and family, but also to have some kind of home when we're back in Minnesota. Didn't get to enjoy much this year, as we were moving stuff into it, but looking forward to next summer.

We spent the 4th of July at the lake with the kids, for sure it was the only place to be as it was 104 degrees, I just loved it as it happens very rarely in Belgium. As usual, the good times go way too fast and it was time to return. Another special event this year was the 50th birthday of my brother in law, Mark. They had a great party at their farm but unfortunately could only enjoy it from far away, but they seemed to have had a lot of fun.

The highlight of my year was a visit from THE GIRLS. Robyn, Kim, Jill and Amy came over for a short one week vacation. We had a fantastic time, the house is still echoing with laughter. We covered some of the great spots, the flea market in Namur, the Brussels Grand Place, we also had a typical Belgian beer dinner at Uncle Yvan's but more importantly, we didn't miss the Champagne area and of course the tasting of one of their best Champagne.  The sad thing was that we certainly didn't have enough time to do anywhere near what we wanted to do, but a good excuse for another trip. They left with a special education in Belgium Beer's, Kim even has her PHD.

Plenty of pictures of everything I've talked about, and more, if you care to scroll down the blog and look through them. As we do every Christmas, we extend the invitation for all of you to come and visit if you have the chance. We have plenty of room and we really enjoy the company. Promise you will have a great time!

Love to you and your families, Mimi & Randy

May this Christmas be so special that you never ever feel lonely again and be surrounded by loved ones throughout!
"Wishing you a warm, fun, family filled Holiday Season.  Merry Christmas!"

Last year I put up Randy's favorite Christmas song, "Driving home for Christmas"  This year it's mine, and I have to say Mr. Music trivia hadn't even heard this before until I showed it to him.  Below that,  a very cute ensemble of Home for the Holidays.

Thanksgiving dinner at Mark and Robyn's cabin

Randy had Thanksgiving at the cabin before he came back to Belgium. I guess there was a pretty good snowstorm on his drive back to the Twin Cities that made it hard to drive

Fourth of July

We spent the day on the lake with the kids, it was the only place to be, as it was 104 degrees. Drove back home at sunset and we could see fireworks going off on all the little villages along the motorway.

New Years Eve in Thief River Falls

We flew to Minnesota for a quick trip to Minneapolis for Randy to take care of some business and then up to Thief River for New Years Eve. We spent the weekend at Doug and Pam's and our kids and their kids showed up with the grandchildren. It's so great to see the little ones, we even got four generations when Grandpa showed up.
